April is National Poetry Month and this book would make an excellent read aloud to kick off the month. It can be used to help clarify the difference between metaphors and similes (there are plenty to identify throughout the text) and it teaches a great story about how poetry starts with what you feel in your heart. All schools should have a Poem in Your Pocket Day during April. There are even some good ideas about how to celebrate and organize such a day in your own school.
