Book review: I don’t want to be a frog #bookaday

I don't want to be a frog book coverby Dev Petty; illustrated by Mike Boldt
Picture book
Interest level: K-3
Reading level: 1.4
4 out of 5 stars

This is a fun book that would make an excellent classroom read aloud. The illustrations are colorful and engaging, and there is plenty of humor in the story. A young frog decides he doesn’t like being a frog, and nothing his parent can say convinces him otherwise. It takes the intervention of another character to make him see that he should be happy just as he is.

I also think this would be a good story for beginning independent readers. There is a small amount of text on each page, and kids will be able to read most of the words. It has a reading level that is perfect for a kindergarten or 1st-grader starting to read on their own.
