I think young children will really like this book, but I must admit that I didn’t fall in love with the story. A young boy is the Hug Machine and goes around hugging anything and everything. Which is a nice idea, but some of the illustrations really didn’t make it seem that the people getting hugged were enjoying it. However, the author makes up for that by having the child hug some of the animals that were sad about never getting hugs — a whale and a porcupine.

The endpapers are special, so make sure you take a close look at them!
