This is a very powerful picture book that looks at the issue of homelessness through the eyes of a bear. At first the bear thought he would have a home and food like everyone else, but then he comes to understand that a life like this isn’t meant for him. As people are terrified of him and treat him like he doesn’t exist, he shrinks more and more into himself, until one little girl says “Hi” and changes the way his world looks.
For young children, this will be the story about a homeless teddy bear and the little girl who makes him happy. This book can also be used to open up discussions with older children about homelessness and how all people deserve to be seen.
I highly recommend this emotional and eye-opening story.
