Milo Speck is a fantasy adventure story that features a young boy who inadvertently gets sucked into Ogregon when he searches for a missing sock in the dryer. While it turns out he must rescue his father’s boss from being squashed by ogres, I was delighted to discover where all my missing socks end up!

I have previously read Linda Urban’s books Hound Dog True and The Center of Everything, both of which are realistic fiction that focus on friendship and family. Milo Speck also focuses on family and friendship, but does so in a lighthearted, funny story that includes ogres and oversized turkeys. Urban states that Roald Dahl and Edward Eager are two of her inspirations for this work.

There is an unfinished thread in the story that left me feeling that a follow-up book will be coming.
