4 out of 5 stars

This is a sweet story that is meant to lull young readers to sleep. After spending a fun and exciting day at the beach with her parents, Lucy is ready for an early bedtime. Even as tired as she is, when the moon shines across her bed and the house is all quiet, Lucy has trouble falling asleep. She comes up with the perfect solution, involving her favorite stuffed animals.

While the story does not directly reference “twenty yawns” readers can assume from the title that there might be twenty throughout the story. It is fun for young children to locate and count them.

Lauren Castillo’s illustrations are soft and warm, perfect for the bedtime story. It is also refreshing to see a biracial family depicted in the illustrations.
