This book is an extremely important and timely picture book for young children. A young boy and his tiny pet elephant are excluded from a club because they don’t fit the cultural norm — cats, dogs, birds, fish. As they dejectedly walk home, they encounter other kids and pets who have been excluded also, so they decide to come together and create their own club, that allows everyone.

With all the news of exclusion and hate that surrounds us today, this book and its message is so important for a young generation. If we are ever to set this world on a better course, we need to teach the young to be inclusive.

I love that this book celebrates throwing off labels that society uses to separate and divide individuals or groups, and instead Strictly No Elephants celebrates coming together to support one another.
