This is a story of two ants who decide to try to live the easy life, which doesn’t always work out so well. Van Allsburg’s illustrations are from the ants point of view and are rich with details. Children will delight in hearing descriptions of everyday household objects from an ants perspective.
This would make an excellent mentor text in elementary school writing lessons that discuss perspective, inference, or showing not telling.
